Questions

What plant managers ask first

Do you work union or open shop?

Both. Which crew we send depends on your site's labor agreement. The bid names the crew and the foreman.

Which codes do you build to?

The one your spec names: ASME B31.3 for process piping, B31.1 for power piping, or your plant's own standard. If the spec is silent, we ask before we price.

Can you finish inside a short window?

We plan backward from the window: spools built ahead, tie-ins sequenced, tests last. If the window is too short for the scope, the bid says so.

Do you do your own prefabrication?

Yes. Spools are built and tagged in our Toledo shop and inspected before they ship.

What do you need to give us a bid?

A scope sheet, the isometrics or P&IDs you have, the line list, the material spec, your window dates and your site rules. A walk-down fills in the rest.

How is the work priced?

In the bid, as a lump sum, unit rates, or time and materials, depending on how well the scope is defined. The form of contract is stated before work starts.

Who supplies the material?

Either of us. The bid lists what we supply and what you supply, including long-lead items.

What do we get at turnover?

Weld maps and records by joint, test records, mill test reports as received, and marked-up drawings, organized by system.

Can we use our own inspector?

Yes. Witness points and who performs inspection are agreed before the shutdown.

How do I know you are licensed and insured?

The license line in the footer names the board and the number, and certificates of insurance come with every bid.

Who answers when a line goes down?

The main line is answered during office hours. Outside them it takes a message for the on-call coordinator, and callout terms are in your service agreement.

Do you take residential work?

No. We work in plants and large facilities.

Not on the list?

Call the office or send the scope.
